Training to enhance online services - 04 Oct 2005 The Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) will conduct a training course in London on October 4, 2005 to impart technical the know-how on maintaining an online platform that enables effective online services. The participants, primarily non-technical staff, will be familiarised with the knowledge and skills required to provide result-oriented online services. The course will focus on industry best practices for designing web interfaces, using and testing paper prototyping designs for online services and using the ‘persona’ strategy to model the typical users of the online services.
Max Planck Society to organise conference on open access - 05 Oct 2005 The Max Planck Society will organise the ‘International conference on open access within the tradition of the Berlin Declaration’ on October 5-7, 2005 at the Albert Einstein Institute, Golm, Germany. The conference will be attended by key players in the open access movement. Topics such as "open access for cultural heritage", "open access to scientific (raw) data" and "legal issues of open access" will be presented.
Training on manufacturing print journals - 06 Oct 2005 The Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP), in association with Unwin Brothers Ltd., will conduct a training session at Old Woking, Surrey, on October 6, 2005, covering all the factors in manufacturing print journals. The topics include proofing, offprints, relationship with supplier and computer-to-plate. The training aims to enable participants to take production decisions on their own to produce journals cost-effectively.
Annual meet of European Association of Information Services - 09 Oct 2005 The European Association of Information Services will conduct its annual meeting on October 9-11, 2005 at Innsbruck, Austria. Topic covered will include ‘Integration versus granularity of information resources: Interoperability and interconnectivity of services, systems and media manifestations’. Society of Editors to host National Editors Conference - 13 Oct 2005 The Society of Editors will host the second National Council of Australian Editors (CASE) conference from 13 – 15 October, 2005. Joint workshop on long-term curation of medical databases - 13 Oct 2005 Digital Curation Centre (DCC) will be conducting a workshop on the long-term securing and curation of scientific databases at the Calouste Gulbenkain Institute, Lisbon, on October 13-14, 2005. ASIS&T to hold annual meet on integrating knowledge - 28 Oct 2005 The American Society for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T) will conduct its annual meeting titled ‘Sparking Synergies: Bringing Research and Practice Together @ ASIST '05’ on October 28-November 2, 2005 at Charlotte, North Carolina, US. The event will emphasise the need to integrate practical and theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience. With content contribution from information science professionals and researchers, the meet will discuss the overlap among subjects such as behavioural science, communications, computer science, sociology and biomedical sciences. It includes 42 papers, 46 panels and 60 posters targeted at a diverse range of professionals, such as librarians, systems designers and publishing staff. The proceedings will also be presented in electronic form.
